Connected Conversations, Ep 2: Safe Homes, Safe Hearts

Connected Conversations is about the words that arrive at the right time — sometimes quietly, sometimes through lived experience rather than advice.

I invited June because something she shared reminded me why I started IMA in the first place: that creating safer, more comfortable homes for furkids truly matters — and that this work has purpose beyond products.

Her words came to me during a difficult period, and they reaffirmed that the intention behind IMA is meaningful — not just to me, but to the furkids and pawrents it may one day support. That reminder stayed with me.

The Moment That Shifted Her Awareness

June shared that becoming a pawrent didn’t instantly change everything — her awareness grew gradually.

Before having her dogs, she chose products based on how they looked or smelled. Aesthetic mattered more than impact. It wasn’t until she noticed recurring skin flare-ups, particularly on Loki, that something clicked.

A simple but painful realisation followed: what she used at home — especially laundry detergent for bedding — was affecting them.

That was the turning point.

She began paying closer attention to everyday items in her home:

  • detergents

  • hand soaps

  • cleaning products

  • anything in the air they were breathing

Because her dogs couldn’t speak to tell her what was wrong, she learned to observe instead.

This shift in awareness changed how she cared for her home — and for them.

Home Became Something Else

June described how her idea of “home” transformed after becoming a pawrent.

Previously, home was just a place to rest between outings. She preferred being out, staying busy, filling her time elsewhere. But after years of living and working alongside her dogs, home became where she most wanted to be.

She spoke about:

  • choosing to stay home more often

  • feeling comforted simply knowing they were safe

  • watching them play freely and relax in ways they hadn’t before

Home became a place shaped by safety, calm, and presence — not just for her, but for them.

Mindfulness as Care

Another shift June shared was becoming more intentional about the energy she brought home.

Even after difficult days, she makes a conscious effort to return with calm, because she believes animals feel the emotional tone of the space they live in. Whether or not everyone believes in energy, this awareness changed how she showed up at home.

For her, care wasn’t only about products — it was also about atmosphere.

This intentionality became part of how she creates a safe, comfortable environment for her dogs.

What She Wishes Pawrents Knew Earlier

When asked what she wished someone had told her sooner, June didn’t frame it as fear or warning — but awareness.

She spoke about:

  • noticing small changes

  • being mindful of what enters the home

  • recognising that animals breathe the same air and live on the same surfaces we do

The message wasn’t about doing everything perfectly — but about paying attention, learning, and adjusting with care.

Closing Reflection

This conversation reminded me that mindfulness often grows slowly — through noticing, lived experience, and love.

June’s story reaffirmed why creating safer, more comfortable homes matters — not as a rule, but as an act of care.

I hope this conversation meets you gently, wherever you are in your pawrent journey.
